The Healthy House
Healthy house, two words that form an idea, a concept that in these times is very attractive. This attraction has motivated the proliferation of slogans and arguments, many of them somewhat hollow, to try to place themselves at the top of a wave that continues to grow, strengthening.
As interested parties we will try to explain the concept and the idea in a little more detail.
What is a healthy house?
It is usually understood and approved that a house can be considered healthy when it provides comfort and rest both physically and psychologically in a healthy environment.
Sounds great, doesn’t it?
Okay, now it’s time to explain how we can get as close as possible, in a logical, prudent and budgeted way to this totally attainable dream.
For many years, profitability has taken precedence over any other type of construction-related concept.
Buildings that were executed in a hurry, presenting structural deficiencies in the short term, with more than dubious qualities, using materials that come from petroleum derivatives in their vast majority and from the most suspicious chemicals, houses that are badly ventilated, houses that encourage the appearance of respiratory illnesses, biochemical imbalances in our organism, lack of rest… There is no need to continue.
For many years a constructive model has prevailed that we now know was not the ideal one for its inhabitants.
The new times have opened our eyes to this situation. The buyer is now more aware of what is really important, and therefore demands it.
Fortunately, specialized companies, like ours, are beginning to be created in different parts of our geography, interested and motivated to bring to everyone construction systems that prioritize health and welfare, energy efficiency and sustainability.
These are the companies whose construction systems are based on sustainable and ecological construction.
I am going to list several of the aspects to be taken into consideration in order to determine that our house, present or future, is a healthy house.
– Orientation of the building.
Although it may seem that this concept is not directly related to the objective to be covered, a healthy house, it is very important. The optimization of the orientation will allow not only to increase the energy efficiency but also to provide the appropriate ventilation and sun hours.
It is decisive to have ventilation systems capable of renewing the air with the minimum effort, whether mechanical or electrical, in the minimum space of time. This is an issue that our company takes very much into account when making its designs. We also provide and strongly advise the use of cross ventilation tools, or double flow, (I am not talking about air conditioning), whose function is to exchange the stale air for purified air.
– Temperature and humidity.
Humidity is an enemy to be beaten. It generates mould, favours the proliferation of mites and other unpleasant insects. Also being able to maintain an optimal temperature range provides comfort and enhances energy savings. Both concepts, humidity and temperature, are related to different health conditions, mainly of the respiratory tract. Fortunately, the construction systems we work with and promote minimise these problems until they almost disappear. Biocompatible materials, natural, free of chemicals in a very high percentage and a construction system that in itself facilitates the necessary transpiration for the living environment is in an environment of exceptional comfort. Have you ever woken up ground, with the impression that nothing or little rest? It is related to perspiration and breathing, yours and that of the house. Take note.
– Noise and light pollution.
We return to the issue of the construction materials used. Noise disturbs rest and the lack of natural light causes biochemical deficiencies that end up seriously affecting our physical and psychological performance. The use of biocompatible materials combined with efficient design eliminates these deficiencies at a stroke. The insulation quality of our materials is directly excellent, both acoustically and thermally, which facilitates enormous energy savings and provides the comfortable environment we need.
To sum up, the design and the construction system are the keys to obtain the necessary pieces with which to build your healthy home.
In your next construction or purchase, before making such a momentous decision, consider the issues summarized here, ask the seller or builder. Do not be left with the doubt, it is too important for you and your family to ignore the issue.
